Scientific Materials Corporation has four programs to meet your
needs for special crystal compositions.
Program 1
This program is the supply of spectroscopic samples from crystals
previously grown. Prices range from $100 for a sample approximately
3 mm dia. x 5 mm long, to $500 for a 1 cm3 sample. Fabrication charges
are extra. YAG, YAlO3, Y2SiO5, LuAG, CaWO4, and SrWO4 are available
with numerous dopant ions at various concentrations. Please contact
us for current availability of specific compositions.
Program 2
This program is the supply of custom crystals grown for your specific
requirements. The cost of these crystals grown with proven dopant/host
compositions is $3,000 to $9,000 per crystal depending on the specific
dopant/host combination. Special material requirements add to the
cost. Typical prices for the YAG host are listed as follows for
a crystal of nominal size 28 mm dia. x 75 mm long.

Other hosts available under this program are: YAlO3,
Y2SiO5, CaWO4, SrWO4,
SrMoO4, LuAG, and YLuAG.
Program 3
This program is a growth feasibility study for new dopants in known
hosts or new undoped hosts. The nominal cost of this program is
$10,000 for a three growth run study. Special material requirements
are an added cost.
Program 4
This program is a dopant/host material development program to provide
production quality laser crystals. This work is normally performed
under contract. The typical costs range from $50,000 to $250,000
depending on the material, growth method, and size requirements.
Scientific Materials Corporation wishes to acknowledge the
support of NASA Langley Research Center in its
efforts to achieve these and other superior products.
